Yesterday Lionel Batiste the drummer for the Treme Brass Band passed away after a four-month battle with cancer. The New Orleans music fixture, who was 81 at the time of his death, was a local hero and musical icon. Batiste was featured heavily in Spike Lee’s documentary on Hurricane Katrina and on the HBO show “Treme”. Although he was seen on the big screen he was best known for his involvement with the Treme Brass Band where he was lovingly referred to as "Uncle Lionel”. 

We are praying for Mr. Batiste’s family at this difficult time.
